Our Story at Mackay Cakes

I started my journey as a trade qualified chef, successfully gaining my Commercial Cookery Certificate from the internationally renowned Regency Hotel in Adelaide.

Represented South Australia in the Culinary Olympics coming 3rd in the world. What an experience that was, a bit like Master Chef!

Later I was promoted to be the Executive Chef for the Southern Pacific Hotel Corporation in Adelaide for several years.

Moved to Mackay and gained Dip. of Ed: taught Trade Cookery to apprentices. Organised training for the disadvantaged to transition into employment. Established cookery section for apprentices at MRAEL. Something I am very proud of.

Cooking is something I’ve always loved and was good at, and in 2009 I decided to focus solely on cakes.
Why did I do that? I love the design and creativity involved in producing a cake
Basically every cake has a story to tell and I love starting with a blank piece of paper, sitting with my customers, finding out what they are looking for. Then designing with them what that cake should look like, and of course what it should taste like.
Having created more than 5,000 cakes and seen the unveiling of my cakes dozens of times, the satisfied look on my clients faces is what fuels my passion.
